CNN Opinion Piece: "Stop sugarcoating the Bible"

Postby Brian » Sun Feb 26, 2012 11:03 am

Interesting article here.

The takeaway seems to be that the Bible's message gets sanitized too much today, and that the Bible is a lot more earthy, and a lot less pious, than we've been lead to believe.

Interesting to think about, from a literary standpoint.

I totally agree with the statements in the article about the bible people should not be watering down passages to suit their needs or even censor events and words.

The bible to me is just not a Classic novel but a guidebook and contains many subjects/topics that are taboo these days. I don't mind having a clearer translation but if they are against what the original text means or watering down words - leave it alone!

I do find it hard to understand the king James Version bible so I need a clearer translation but not watered down. :goodpost:

I agree, Sledge. I consider the Bible a literary work, rather than a guide to life, but the principle is the same: It's a classic, (arguably the *first* classic, unless you count Beowulf and Gilgamesh, I guess) and shouldn't be messed with!

To me, the Bible is probably our first History Book and a look into the future as well. Events unfold before your eyes......
