William Shatner to Make Space-Themed Heavy Metal Album

Postby sledge » Thu Apr 14, 2011 7:48 pm

Bill is at it again another concept album of shoutings :blah2:

Star Trek legend William Shatner is resurrecting his music career with the release of a new space-themed, heavy metal album, Searching for Major Tom.

Shatner announced the record back in February and now his official website has released the tracklisting. In keeping with Shatner's past albums the record is a collection of covers, featuring the songs of Pink Floyd, Queen, Duran Duran, The Byrds, The Police and Black Sabbath. You'll also be pleased to hear he's re-covered his astonishing cover of Elton John's Rocket Man which you really should watch again below.

The jaw-dropping thing about Bill's new project isn't the fact that it's a record that mixes a veteran actor with Heavy Metal (Christopher Lee beat him to that last year) but the list of stellar musicians involved with it. The line-up of cats who noodled on the record is legendary: Dave Davies (The Kinks), Manuel Gottshing (Ash Ra Tempel), Edgar Froese (Tangerine Dream), Steve Hillage (Gong), Wayne Kramer (MC5) and Peter Frampton are just some of the players involved. Wow.

Shatner has also been involved in other space-related activities of late, including hinting that he'd like a role in Star Trek 2 and recording a wake-up call for the crew of Space Shuttle Discovery last month.

Watch Shatner perform Rocket Man below... it truly is mind-blowing :help:
