James Cameron’s ‘Battle Angel’ Status

Postby sledge » Sat May 01, 2010 7:56 am

More than four years have passed since it was announced James Cameron’s first major film project since Titanic would be a big budget sci-fi film titled Battle Angel. A follow up announcement two years later confirmed that Cameron was preparing to shoot not one but two big budget sci-fi films: Battle Angel and Avatar. It was thought both movies might end up being shot back-to-back and so two separate production teams were put to work. Eventually, however, Battle Angel ended up becoming secondary to Avatar.

At the time, Cameron said: “I was going to do Battle Angel first and then Avatar. We spent a fair amount of time looking strategically at which order was the most cost effective, because we’re still doing both, in terms of the technical infrastructure that we had to create. We’re going to be using a lot of the same kind of performance capture systems and things like that on both films. We eventually came down on the side of it making sense for Avatar to go first, so Avatar is going first and then Battle Angel. But they’re really being done back-to-back.”

Three years on and there has been no news on the status of Battle Angel – that is, until now.
