Kiesha's mother and stepfather monitored before arrest

Postby sledge » Sat Apr 23, 2011 4:57 am

This has been a shocking crime that has alarmed us here for the last few months(not far from me)looks like the parents were involved. :(

The seven-month investigation by police into the disappearance of missing Sydney girl Kiesha Abrahams included electronic surveillance of her mother and stepfather.

Candlelight vigils were held overnight at the little girl's former home in Mount Druitt and the bush reserve in nearby Shalvey, where a body was found, on what would have been her seventh birthday.

People placed Easter bunnies, stuffed toys and other items along the front fence of the home.

Kiesha's mother Kristi Anne Abrahams and stepfather Robert Terry Smith were arrested around 1:00am Friday close to a park that had been previously searched for the girl's remains.

Yesterday they were both charged with her murder.

Police had been monitoring the couple electronically for several months.

A search of the area found skeletal remains believed to belong to the little girl.

They have been taken to the morgue at Glebe for examination.

Kiesha had been reported missing by her mother and stepfather in August last year.

Her mother told police her daughter had been abducted.

A massive police hunt failed to find a trace of her and her mother and stepfather made public appeals for any information.

Police now allege the pair killed Kiesha sometime between July 20 and 27 last year and reported her missing days later.

Abrahams and Smith did not appear by video link in court yesterday, with their lawyer saying they were too distressed.

They have been refused bail and will face court next Friday.

Do you think they did It Sledge?

Infanticide Is very rare...

We had a case here recently.... A young mother lost three young children In a house fire and the police charged her with their murders. The police and the prosecution said she did It to get attention. She was found not guilty on all counts and I can not Imagine what the police put her through whilst the real arsonists was walking around laughing their face off. It was a disgusting case.

The Police have been monitoring the parents for many months as there were many searches for the child, they say they found remains nearby. It looks like Foul Play by the Parents but they haven't gone to trial yet. I drive past her roadside memorial which was vandalised over the weekend :angryfire:

It reminds me of the case years ago of a husband who reported his wife missing went on national television to ask for help did all the emotions even went with Police to search and so on. They found her body dumped in bushland and during forensic examination they found evidence he had killed her and he was charged and found guilty.

I was reading something somewhere not that long ago that any relative who goes on a TV appeal, usually turns out to be the killer. They can tell so much these days just by body language.

Have they done the forensics yet Sledge?

The Mother faced court last Friday.

Protests as Kiesha's mother faces court

The mother of Kiesha Abrahams has appeared in a Sydney court charged with murdering her daughter.

Kristi Abrahams appeared at Penrith Local Court via video link, with her hair tied back and dressed in a green prison tracksuit.

She looked teary but composed, her hand covering her mouth.

During the brief appearance Kristi Abrahams answered yes when the Magistrate spoke her name and gave a small wave to her lawyer.

Her co-accused, Kiesha's stepfather Robert Smith, was not required to appear.

No plea was entered and bail was not applied for.

The case has been adjourned until June.

The pair were charged with Kiesha's murder last Friday, eight months after she was reported missing from the family's Mount Druitt home.

The charges came after police found bones that they believe belong to the six-year-old girl in bushland at Shalvey.

A crowd of around 50 people gathered outside the courthouse before the hearing.

More than a dozen police officers kept an eye on the gathering.

A former friend of Kristi Abrahams, Alison Anderson, spoke outside the court.

"I'm here for Kiesha. It's not about anyone else, it's about getting justice for Kiesha," Ms Anderson said.

"You've got no idea how much of an impact this has had on everyone's lives."

The protesters were circulating a petition calling on the state's Attorney-General to legislate for life sentences for child murder.

They said they already have around 3000 signatures.

Quite Sad.
