How should the site be funded?

1) $10/year access to the Insult and/or Sex forums.

2) $5/year access to the site as a whole.

3) Monthly fee for running your own forum. (With this fee, you would be entitled to do whatever you wanted to do in your forum, because it would be well and truly yours.

Site Funding

Postby Brian » Sun Mar 21, 2010 12:30 pm

Hi, Everyone.

I want to find a way to keep this site open indefinitely. Unfortunately, to do that costs money (hosting fees + domain registration fees, primarily). Accordingly, I am considering ways to bring in some revenue. Here are the options I am considering so far:

1) $10/year access to the Insult and/or Sex forums.
2) $5/year access to the site as a whole.
3) Monthly fee for running your own forum. (With this fee, you would be entitled to do whatever you wanted to do in your forum, because it would be well and truly yours.

What do you think of those options? If you have another idea, please feel free to add it to the thread.

I voted for choice number 2. Maybe an agreed upon amount to be paid annually..on a voluntary basis. Maybe those who pay can get a icon with "supporter" status or something like that.

Thats a good Idea, not fair that you have to bear the costs of running this site.

I'd donate $10.00.. :salute:

Brian.....if you have a PayPAl account. why don't you set up a link for us to pay?..I am sure if you make it easy, more of the members will contribute..

Nice note, Mill! :)

I've got a PayPal account. :) I can set up the payment procedure at any time. What I'm trying to decide is what model I want to use.

So far, what's most appealing to me is the idea of charging for access to the Insult and Sex forums. Aside from helping to pay for the site, this would also serve as a filter for those who were actually serious, vs. curious, and would keep the kiddie-poos out of the Sex forum.

Personally, I think I'm inclined to charge a combined $10 per year for both forums, or $5 per year for either one alone. And then a voluntary donation link for those who don't use those forums, but still want to contribute.

We have a lot more users than we have moderators, so I would like to find a way to acknowledge people by the user, rather than just noting in their forum that they support the site (which, IIRC, is how it was done on the old forum). Maybe that could be combined with a fee to run your own forum (again, free of the limitations of the rules of the general site (within legal limits).)

I think $10.00 per year is more than fair...that would give access to all forums. And then you could recognize the donors.

I get more than $10.00 worth of relief every time I see Frank get his chops busted... :rofl2:

Get the members to do an Email Money transfer...
just as easy as that crap paypal.
no fees, no sending a email to paypal to get your money.

They send it to you and it is deposited into your bank account...(instantly)
NO BS from Paypal

or do you take

I read that the Email Money transfer fees were pretty high..How do they rate compared to PayPaL?

I'm more inclined to go with PayPal, since I know that service, but if there's big money to be saved, I'm all for it. :)
